What Amex should have done to keep it at least somewhat fair and balanced is to keep the fee at $175 and then charge the same for additional cards. But for those who do and want to keep them, adding three authorized users now costs you $585 plus the primary annual fee of $695. It’ll be a clear minority with two, let alone three authorized users. I imagine the vast majority of people do not have authorized users at all, then those who do maybe have one. I’m torn when it comes to evaluating this change because I’m not personally affected by it and I’m trying to imagine a situation where this would make a substantial difference.
